Teenage unemployment in California is approximately 26%. There are two reasons.
First, illegal aliens are taking jobs at car washes, restaurants and other places teens would normally take. This is a major cause--and they work cheap. That leads us to the second reason for high teen unemployment.
Yes, the infamous effort by government to assure teen unemployment, the minimum wage.
This is government forcing businesses to pay people more than they are worth--for the sake of "society". Actually, this is an effort by unions to control wages. "Indeed, teenage unemployment today is around 26 percent, and the Usual Suspects are concerned. The situation is so bad that some young people are even taking unpaid internships, something that state governments (and the unions that back them, of course) have declared illegal. Others, like this blogger, bemoan the fact that young people are not getting valuable work experience."
Want a racist government policy that George Wallace or Orval Faubus would be proud to initiate; the minimum wage is a winner for bigots. "The numbers simply are depressing. For all teenagers the number is about 26 percent, and for black male teenagers, its over 50 percent. This is not due just to increases in the minimum wage; many African-American teens live in the inner cities, which are not citadels of commerce."
Liberal government is the last remnant of bigotry and the minimum wage is part of their bigotry.
