The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power IS a government agency. It is not privately owned. How corrupt is it?
"Simmering tension between the City Council and the DWP erupted Tuesday after utility officials skipped a hearing scheduled to discuss an audit that accused the agency of lying in order to push through a rate hike.
An angry Councilman Paul Koretz threatened to use the council's subpoena power to compel Austin Beutner, a deputy mayor and the DWP's interim general manager, to appear before the full City Council within the next two weeks."
They refuse to be audited, they refuse a subpoena--they refuse to tell the truth.
Maybe the City Council needs to change the leadership of the DWP? Maybe a few nights in jail for contempt will help? The better idea is to sell it--why should the City own a utility in the first place?
What is wrong with government? Look at the DWP and the City of Los Angeles.
