  • Tribes Refuse to Pay State for Slot Machines--Adds $Millions More to Deficit

Our Governor has already lost $6 billion in lawsuits, with at least another $4 billion to go.

Here is an example of a small lawsuit, being lost by the Governor. Could cost the taxpayers $30 million, to be added to the Arnold deficit of $39 billion?

"In court documents, Pauma said the payments required under the 2004 agreement have been crushing to the tribe.

Under the 1999 agreement, Pauma said it paid the state $315,000 a year to operate 1,050 slot machines at its casino. Under the 2004 deal, the tribe pays $7.75 million a year for the licenses.

"Since entering into the amended compact, we have overpaid more than $30 million," Devers said. "We are eager to resolve this issue as soon as possible to safeguard the financial security of our tribe."

Pauma says it tried to renegotiate the agreement with the governor, but the state declined, according to the lawsuit."

The only question is how much interest the taxpayers of California will have to pay for the actions of the Governor.
