Clark Kelso is using your tax dollars to hires political hacks named Machado and Garamendi to sell the people of Stockton it would be a great idea to destroy local health care and make criminals more comfortable.
"Kelso & Co. decided to locate, oh, two prison hospitals and a re-entry facility here without so much as a word to Stocktonians. That courtesy call to our elected state representatives? Forgot that, too.
"If (prison chief) Matt Cate and I had it to do over again, we'd do it differently," Kelso went on with his mea culpa. "But that, it is what it is. We're trying to get over that."
This is as sleazy an government agent as any since Boss Tweed. Instead of "negotiating", tell him there will be no roads to his new facilities. Tell him that folks who work at the local will pay a 25% surcharge on their taxes. Maybe use AB 32 to keep him tied up in court till he is ready for assisted living.
What do people think of him? "he took questions. One of the first being, "Why should we trust anything you say, Mr. Kelso?"
Well, yes. As to that. Frankly, trust, s'mores and singing "Kumbaya" have no place in this deal.
Mayor Ann Johnston, who crashed the meeting, expressed this forcefully when she popped up and declared, "Vague promises don't cut it. ... We would like to see real, concrete contractual language."
