  • California Going Cold Turkey?

With the failure of the budget measures, California political representatives appear to have been sent a message by voters. That message may be: We're cutting you off. Like a faithful cosignor, California taxpayers have underwritten gaurantees on every legislative and executive expense that has found its' way to the treasurers' desk. But regardless of what may have been percieved as to the voters motivations, one thing emerged from the recent vote, and that is that California politicians addicted to income and spending can no longer depend on their supplier of the former. With that, California residents are going to go through withdrawal symptoms for the next few years as the painful decisions of allocating scarce taxpayer resources are made based upon bare bones necessity and survival. Whether they realized it or not, California voters have gone cold turkey alongside their charges in the Capitol. Draconian cutbacks in services will cascade down the system to affect every resident. Now will also come some dog-eat-dog carnage in the state house too. The worst spenders will be hard pressed to cover up or negotiate any back room deals that hold their pig at the trough noses at any level above the rest. there's going to be so much finger pointing, back biting, and outright defections among old loyalties within previous factions at the Capitol that we may have to start a tabloid complete with paparazzi to keep track of the players and the events. This is long overdue though. Those forces mentioned should have been fighting over money in this fashion ten years ago, and instead they have joined forces to wage war against their constituency. Now all the financial graft warlords will be turning on each other, and I'll be taking a bit of delight at the show.

It will be interesting to watch all the political tap dancing over the next month in Sacramento.

Let's see if they make cuts where they need to be made.

Ethnic studies programs seem like a good place to start concerning education.

Yes, and it sounds like ethics studies, so that will fuel them even more to cut them

If there were ethics in Sacramento, we wouldn't be in the place we are.
