Now Obama and his friends are thanking the nurses with unemployment and patients with rationed health care.
"Forty-four workers represented by the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West who received layoff notices cared for patients in the hospital’s skilled-nursing facility on the ninth floor, which is being shuttered. Three other union members worked in other hospital services.
Other non-union healthcare workers in the skilled nursing-facility will also lose their jobs, although a spokeswoman for the hospital could not specify how many. Seton stopped accepting patients into the facility on Oct. 6, citing economic constraints.
“Basically, we had declining patient volumes as well as reimbursements, which means a reduction in revenue for that service, from government as well as private payers,” said Beth Volz, a spokeswoman for the hospital. In a letter to medical staff, the hospital president said that closing the unit would save the hospital $2.5 million annually, the San Mateo County Times reported."
