The Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce must have taken a course in Obama economics--the higher the taxes, the more power you have.
The Chamber could not get enough money from its members-and businesses would not join this radical organization.
So, the Chamber decided to use the force of government to get money. They wanted the city to put a tax of up to $400 for EVERY business in town, and the money goes to the Chamber, not the city.
"On Thursday, Nov. 4, Beverly Hills City Council rejected the Chamber of Commerce's proposal for a new business tax to replace membership dues and use those funds to operate the Chamber.
Chamber Directors spoke for approximately 30 minutes at last week’s Council meeting, but failed to give specifics of the new features garnered through use of the mandatory City business license tax.
Council members were concerned over the legitimacy of the voting process in lieu of the passage of Proposition 26, as well as the new benefits afforded to local businesses."
Worse, the Chamber could not explain how the money would be spent. Like Obama, the Chamber said, "We are smarter than you, so give us the money."
I hope those credentialing Chambers will close down this totalitarian wantabee. Beverly Hills deserves an honest Chamber of Commerce, not a front for Obama type taxes.
