San Diego schools are over crowded due to illegal aliens. It looks like the families of SD determined not to pay another dime to educate illegal aliens.
"Nobody thought persuading voters to pay more for schools would be easy in a recession.
The battle to pass a parcel tax increase seemed so intimidating that one of its biggest backers, school board President Richard Barrera, waffled this summer on whether to keep Prop. J on the ballot at all.
The tax ended up being walloped at the polls. Just before midnight, with 48 percent of the precincts reporting, Prop. J had just 42.6 percent of the vote, far below the two-thirds it would need to pass. The meager results are a blow to San Diego Unified in the first race since a new school board majority took the helm."
Was this result because of the Depression or because folks refused to spend more on failed government education?
In my opinion it is all three: Unions own the schools, so why give them more money, the Depression and the cost of educating illegal aliens.
Lots of tax measures went down this year--though we continued to elect Democrats who create failed government programs.
