  • Dining while driving as common as hand-held cell phone use

Notice that the politicians and special interests no longer rag on cell phone usage while people are driving.

The new phrase is distracted driving. Kind of like the Democrats and AGS sufferers (Al Gore Syndrome)--they changed the phrase from Global Warming to Climate Change.

What are distractions that must end, per the politicians trying to buy votes with this issue? Texting and using a cell phone, even with a Bluetooth, while driving.

But, if they were honest--and they are NEVER honest--they would have to admit that passengers, children, eating and drinking, the radio--are all distractions that cause accidents as well.

"Of nearly 7,700 online respondents, 22 percent admitted to having used a hand-held cell phone during the past 30 days, while 10 percent said they had used some form of hands-free/Bluetooth device.

But right behind this is the number of people who admit to eating while driving 21 percent.

Texting while driving (13 percent), fiddling with the navigation system (12 percent), and using an iPod (7 percent) fill out the top five driving distractions, according to the survey.

Two other potential distraction creators -- engaging in various forms of on-the-fly personal grooming and reading e-mail -- accounted for less than 5 percent each of responses."

So, to be fair, and end the distractions--government should make it a law--NO PASSENGERS IN A CAR. NO RADIO IN A CAR. NO CHILDREN IN A CAR. NO EATING OR DRINKING IN A CAR.

If they refuse to support that, call them out as hypocrites just looking for publicity.
