Assemblyman Van Tran is running to replace Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez of the 47th Congressional District in Southern California. This seat, the only Orange County Congressional seat held by a Democrat, is one of the top races to watch across the nation.
The latest independent polling results show Van just two points behind Loretta45% to Vans 43% of the vote. The Rothenberg Political Report, Cook Political Report, and Larry Sabato have all downgraded Sanchezs hopes for re-election. Additionally, National Republican Congressional Committee added Van to their Young Guns list, which is a highly coveted designation given to only the truly competitive and accomplished candidates who have a real chance at defeating their opponent.
This race garnered national attention when Sanchez accused Tran of being anti-immigrant and anti-Hispanic during her Spanish interview with Univision. Sanchez claimed The Vietnamese and the Republicans are, with an intensity, (trying) to take this seat and give it to this Van Tran, who is very anti-immigrant and very anti-Hispanic.
With just over a month until Election Day and just a few days before people start voting absentee, I know this race will be one of the top races to watch.
On October 6th there is a Republican Jewish Coalition FREE event for Van Tran (wonder what Loretta Sanchez would say about Jews for Tran?). I have known Van since his days as a staffer for Bob Dornan. If you can attend--please do. If you can't,send a donation. California can win back at least two seats held by Democrats (McNerney near Stockton is the other with David Harmer)
