  • Barnett: "How Jerry Brown Destroyed the Judiciary"

Our great conservative friend, Lou Barnett, has written a book called "Gov. Jerry Browns Destruction of the California Judiciary".

For example, "Governor Jerry Brown appointed Fred Gabourie to the Los Angeles County Municipal Court in January of 1976.

Gabourie had an interesting past, including helping to negotiate an end to the violent occupation at Wounded Knee in South Dakota by radical Indian activist Dennis Banks. The two were to become friends.

As a result of that violence at Wounded Knee, Dennis Banks was convicted by a South Dakota jury of assault with a deadly weapon. Two days before he was to be sentenced, Banks fled to California. South Dakota requested extradition of Banks by Governor Brown. After nearly a year of waiting, South Dakota filed suit to force Brown to extradite Banks.

The California State Supreme Court ruled that Governor Brown could grant asylum to Banks for the conviction in South Dakota. Brown granted the asylum on April 20, 1978. Following the Supreme Court decision, it was learned that at the time the case was being heard by the California Supreme Court, Banks attorney, Karen Spelke, was also employed on the staff of California Supreme Court Justice Wiley Manuel (a Jerry Brown appointee).

On January 14, 1980, Judge Gabourie was indicted along with three others for conspiracy to pervert or obstruct justice and for the removal and altering of government documents. Two others were Harry Weiss and Sammy Weiss who were Brown campaign donors."

Then you had this, "Hugh Wesley Goodwin was appointed to the Fresno Municipal Court on January 29, 1976 (by Brown). Prior to his appointment, Goodwin had been an Assistant Public Defender in Fresno County for nine years. Previously, he had been a member of the Fresno City Council and the Fresno County Board of Supervisors.

In the less than three years he served as a judge, there were over 200 cases in which he gave suspended sentences and probation instead of fines and jail if those convicted agreed to attend church. Many were traffic cases but some were violent law-breakers who were released without punishment.

In one particular case, a seventeen year old young man plead guilty to the forcible statutory rape of a fourteen year old girl in 1976. The defendant already had a seven year record of juvenile delinquency. But instead of sending the violent criminal to a California Youth Authority prison, Judge Goodwin decided to give him probation provided he go to church and mind his mother.

Go to www.JerryBrownFactCheck.com to find out more about the Brown years as Governor, and to buy the book from Amazon. You and your neighbors need to read this book before you vote.

Remember, the past is prologue. If you liked his judicial appointments, like Rose Bird, you can image what he will do TO us now. Lou Barnett has written an intelligent guide to the principles and values of Jerry Brown--we all need to know them before November 2.
