On one hand you have the value voters--folks who vote for a candidate who believes in the Constitution (shouldn't they all?), prefers limited government (shouldn't they all?), lower taxes understanding money is earn by the individual, not the government (shouldn't they all?)
On the other hand you have the fair weather friends--Arlen Spector, Charlie Crist, Mike Castle, Dede what's her name in NY 23, Lisa Murkowski--as long as they get the nomination, happy to be GOP'ers. when then lose, they prefer Democrats to Republicans. When Goldwater beat Rockefeller, the Rocky folks left the Party and in 1966 we won big--without them. When Reagan won the nomination, John Anderson, the Murkowski of his time, ran as an "independent" for President, hoping Jimmie Carter would win. These folks had/have the values of Democrats--Who remembers John Anderson any more? Or cares?
Mike Pence articulated what it means to be a “values" voter and candidate,” Those who would have us ignore the battle being fought over life, marriage and religious liberty have forgotten the lessons of history, said Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) in his speech Friday. "America's darkest moments have come when economic arguments trumped moral principles.
"We must realize there's a direct correlation between the stability of families and the stability of our economy," former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said in his address the same day. "I'm so tired of people telling me we don't want to hear about issues of the family."
The Moral Majority, the Tea Party of a generation ago, helped elect Reagan. Today the Tea Party movement will again win elections and return America to the Constitution and values.
The GOP needs value voter, value voters need the GOP. Neither needs fair weather friends like Murkowski, Castle, Charlie Crist, Arlen Spector and my favorite, Dede. We need true believers, in thick and thin.
