Gas pumps in California work. That is not good enough for government--they want to replace tens of thousands of gas pumps that work, with new ones.
"California gas stations that use a certain pump nozzle made by Vapor Systems Technologies Inc., of Springboro, Ohio, must disable the hold-open latch, the state Fire Marshalls Office says.
In some instances, a damaged VST nozzle can unexpectedly cause gasoline spray upon activating the dispenser, prior to the nozzle being inserted into the vehicle fuel tank, the state says. The order involves the VST Model VST-EVR-NB nozzle.
The nozzle design has been in place in California for years and has been used over 1 billion times, says Todd Sorrell, an attorney with the Los Angeles office of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, who represents the company in California. He says the state says there have been 13 spray or leakage incidents."
