Would you pay a buck for something that you can pay a quarter for? Government has mandated you waste your money.
"In effort to meet tougher regulations, the new incandescent light bulbs are also selling at record rates, but also at record prices. A new bulb presented by Philips Lightings Halogena Energy Savers is selling at 20 times the price of a standard bulb [2]($5 compared to 25 cents)an immense price increase for a 30 percent efficiency improvement. However, the new bulbs last three times as long as a standard bulb, bringing the price ratio down to less than seven times the price of a standard bulb."
Would you pay extra for the privilege of making your family sick? Government is mandating potential illness in your family at the same time it is starting the rationing of health.
"Critics of CFL bulbs argue that exposure to mercury vapor [3]is dangerous if the bulbs are broken, and others complained about CFL bulbs causing migraines and epilepsy [4]attacks, resulting in medical groups asking for exemptions for those with health problems. Proponents of CFL bulbs argue that the increased energy efficiency will offset the higher sticker price, but critics argue it will take an exceptionally long time where people use lights infrequently [5], such as closets and attics."
Did I mention these new bulbs have toxic mercury in them? Or that if one breaks you need to call a hazmat crew, at the cost of $2,000.
The do-gooder supporters of Al Gore, those suffering from the deadly AGS disease (Al Gore Syndrome) need help before they harm or bankrupt the rest of us.
As for me I believe I have stocked up on real, cheap, light bulbs--should last ten years or more--I have LOTS of light bulbs. Plus when they run out, I am positive there will be a black market in real light bulbs.
