To Democrats raising taxes is as much an addiction as gambling, drinking or drugs to an addict. Now they want to raise the property taxes on commercial property.
In 1978 we passed Prop.13 to save homes and businesses. The Democrats wanted higher property taxes on commercial property--and Republicans like Senator Ken Maddy joined in that effort--this was Prop. 8 on the 1978 primary ballot.
Now the GOP doesn't have any elected officials wanting to have two tiered property taxes. But, the Democrats have this as a mantra-raise taxes, raise taxes, raise taxes.
"Mr. Ting, who is running for re-election this year (against James Pan, a long-time employee of the Assessor's Office) told listeners of San Francisco's public radio station KALW 91.7 that a split roll measure would "reform" Proposition 13. Mr. Ting is a major proponent of a split roll property tax that most likely would increase taxes on commercial, industrial, and investor-owned residential properties."
Without a doubt--pass this measure, raise taxes on commercial properties and you will see the value of California business plummet, new opportunities go to Nevada or elsewhere and unemployment spike within 60 days. Money to grow jobs and businesses will instead go to government. Money for investment will be forced to leave California.
We are already a Third World State. We are already in a Depression in California. This cuts off our head. But the Democrats will feel a high.
