Would the people of Oakland find it cheaper, and be safer, if instead of passing yet another tax, they instead bought a gun for protection?
"The city's leaders showed a somewhat unified front Tuesday, appearing together a day after cutting a deal with the Oakland police union to put an unpopular, $360 parcel tax on the November ballot to avoid more officer layoffs.
But will Oakland residents go for it? The city's violent crime rate was down last year, but the loss of 80 police officers this month, and the inability of police to respond to many crimes, has people on edge".
This is a corrupt, incompetence city government. Oakland has been run for 8 years by the "moonbeam" himself, Jerry Brown, and for the past four years by the Castro friend, the absentee Mayor, Ron Dellums.
The next Mayor will probably be the ethically challenged Don Perata, who as a Senator was investigated for years for corruption, but, in the end the FBI could not pin anything on him.
Government has way too much money--Oakland is an example of why no government may be better than and Oakland type government.
