Escondido is cutting cops, fire fighters, library hours, personnel.
But, they have $20 million to act like a bunch of venture capital developers with unlimited resources.
"Despite a price tag of $20 million to $25 million, a majority of the City Council decided Wednesday to quickly clear 18 acres of city land near the intersection of Interstate 15 and Highway 78 for a technology park or large sports stadium.
Council members said it was urgent to relocate the city's public works yard somewhere else, contending that the site could become the most valuable commercial land in Escondido and possibly all of North County.
"The interest in this area is very high, and will only get higher when the economy improves," Councilman Sam Abed said."
Sadly Abed claims to be a conservative--now he is acting like a big government Democrat. He should be reminded he is a city council member, not a developer, and this is NOT his money.
Besides the money, the city council is spending its time on development when it needs to spend time running a city and balancing a budget. The Council time would better spend figuring out how to stop illegal aliens draining the city and causing high unemployment.
Sam Abed needs to do the job he was elected to do--not try to become the new Donald Trump.
