Fox News noted that California has the third highest unemployment rate in the country. Buried in the report by the LA Times, was that California had 28,000 MORE jobs this month than last.
"California added 28,300 jobs to its payrolls in May, but many were temporary government jobs, adding to fears that the economic recovery will be even more sluggish than originally anticipated.
The state added 30,000 federal government jobs in the month, according to the Employment Development Department. Many of them were census jobs. The manufacturing, information and professional and business services sectors also posted slight gains in the month."
So, if you minus the "census jobs", California LOST 1700 jobs last month.
The bigger news is that the unemployment rate does not matter--it is people that count. Fox News reported year to year, California lost 244,000 jobs. In other words--we lost 274,000 jobs if you include the phony, temporary jobs.
California is in deep trouble and the Times, Chronicle and Bee are making this report look bad, but not as bad as it really is. we are in a Depression, our debt and deficit is growing and the denizens of Sacramento act like they are wondering where they are going for the 4th of July, instead of solving our problems. Do you see 18 hour days of negotiations? Do you see the Sacramento leaders working seven days a week to keep the State afloat?
Earlier this week Democrats State Controller John Chiang announced the State has run out of cash and only is kept open by borrowing $20 billion--$2 billion in the past week. Where is the urgency? The media is reporting on the Lakers win (a good thing). How about a report on the lack of action in Sacramento with as much time as Kobe is getting?
