Riverside is cutting it budget--maybe cops and firefighters will go.
But, they have $200,000 to pay a manager for an auditorium. "Riverside officials appear poised to terminate Fox theater manager William P. Malone's contract to run the city's municipal auditorium, though two officials said the decision is not related to complaints about how he has run the Fox, the city's $32 million showpiece." Why is the city concerned about this facility in the first place?
"The city pays Malone $200,000 a year to operate the 1,642-seat venue and book the acts.
City officials and community members have expressed concerns for several months over how Malone has handled the Fox. According to interviews and city records, Malone has been difficult to reach, missed payment deadlines and left tasks undone because he refused to cede any decision-making authority."
Time to sell this boondoggle--get more police and fire fighters--and fewer auditorium managers and workers.
Another example of why government is in trouble.
