  • California Government Employees: License to Cheat

What is the problem? California has a ruling class, and they are called government workers.

"The Legislature has no excuse for continuing an outdated program that allows public employees to avoid paying highway tolls, traffic tickets and parking fines. New legislation proposes a roundabout way to shut that loophole, but the Legislature would be smarter to simply scuttle this pointless perk."

How do they get away with it? "The Assembly this week approved AB 2097, by Assemblyman Jeff Miller, R-Corona, and sent it to the Senate. Miller's bill would require people with untraceable license plates to provide their business addresses to the Department of Motor Vehicles, and authorize police to send traffic tickets to those locations instead of the home address. The legislation would suspend time limits on processing traffic violations for confidential plate holders, and prohibit the DMV from renewing the registration of vehicles with such licenses if the owners had unpaid fines.

Those provisions would be an improvement over current practice, which lets people with the untraceable plates violate traffic laws without much consequence. But eliminating this unnecessary program would be a more effective and straightforward solution."

Just another stick in the eye of honest citizens, another way for government workers to be part of the ruling class--lots of laws are not enforced when they are involved--another perk of the job.
