  • More Staff Cuts Loom at San Diego Union-Tribune

The former mainstream media, the fringe media is dying a slow death.

"Even as the local economy shows signs of life, newsroom employees at The San Union-Tribune are bracing for more cuts.

Editor Jeff Light, who came to the newspaper in March, told employees in a May 21 internal memo about steps leading up to a pending reorganization.

"Yes, the newsroom budget will be smaller," he wrote, "and no, I am not authorized to share details."

Other departments of the paper have already been trimmed this month. A newsroom employee who spoke on condition of anonymity said there have been a small number of layoffs in the human resources, packaging and advertising departments."

But there is good news for the people of San Diego--they now have Voice of San Diego, San Diego News Room, talk radio, the Reader, and much more--and the Internet.

No longer will they have to pay good money to read press releases and government statements that make no sense and are not questioned by reporters.

This could become the golden age of news, as the fringe media continues to commit suicide.
