  • Pensions drain police budgets and leadership

Thanks to a very generous pension plan, the Police Chief of Redding can earn more money by retiringrather than working!

"Its hard to blame Redding Police Chief Peter Hansen for hanging up his badge after less than two years.

Budget cuts are squeezing his force with no end on the horizon. The City Council and the unions representing his officers are locked in an increasingly bitter political feud.

And even if he spent his workday bass-fishing on Lake Shasta instead of managing a $25 million organization responsible for the safety of nearly 100,000 Redding residents, hed be doing it essentially as a volunteer." And he is in his early 50's.

Now you know why the State pension plan has an unfunded liability of over $500 billion according to a Stanford University study. This is unsustainable and cities like Huntington Beach can not hire replacements for retiring cops.

We need reform, now. We can not wait till the unions allow it--otherwise, after the fiscal collapse we will not recover (and California will have a fiscal collapse, sooner rather than later).
