At the same time how is the murder capitol of California doing for public safety? "On a day when police cracked down on a violent West Oakland street gang, arresting at least 26 people, authorities warned Thursday they might not have the capacity to conduct similar investigations if they endure the kind of budget cuts under discussion at City Hall.
Though it's not a done deal, the Oakland City Council appears increasingly serious about the possibility of laying off as many as 192 police officers as it grapples with a budget deficit of roughly $31 million for the fiscal year beginning July 1."
The city has decided that a bakery and other stupid expenditures are more important than taking down gangs.
We should not boycott Oakland. We need to avoid it, for our own safety.
