The cost of government education is high and in many cases,a failure. LAUSD spent $400 million for one high school, yet still has a 50% drop out rate.
"Reformers" have played with lower teacher student ratios,dozens of silly math curriculums, unions run amuck--teachers in Oakland striking for HIGHER pay--while the students graduate barely literate.
In San Juan Capistrano teachers strike to show that the union, not the Board or parents, own the schools.
Massachusetts is starting "virtual" schools--saving gas, cost of brick and mortar,maintenance costs--just inconveniencing electrons--should be an Al Gore approved approach to education--based on the needs of students,low cost and mostly free of extortionist unions.
Riverside high schools have begun really saving money and the environment--they have begun using digital textbooks, instead of killing trees. when changes are made, deadtree books do not need to be dumped, the electrons are changed instead.
"Riverside Unified has taken the leadin California, with at least one class in every high school trying a digital textbook and reader out this year. Charter schools and private schools, unencumbered by lengthy approval processes, will be the other early adopters. Over the summer, teachers with the charter group Leadership Public Schools will create three variations of each of six science textbooks published by Palo-Alto based CK-12 Foundation, including a version for advanced students, according to CK-12 co-founder Murugan Pal." Too bad the fringe media does not report these reforms--good for the environment,good for the students, good for the taxpayers--the only loser are the unions--much fewer teacher to force into bribe paying.
Pass this along--real reform in education is coming, whether the unions and special interests want it or not.
