  • Cal's increase in out-of-state admissions unfair to Californians

California taxpayers pay for the UC system--which cuts California kids out of the schools in fair of kids from Yemen, Texas and Pakistan.

"Unfortunately, UC Berkeley has chosen to abandon that principle by increasing the proportion of undergraduate out-of-state students from 8 percent to 18.5 percent. The share of international students will climb from 5.7 percent to 8.3 percent.

The reason for the new policy is to raise money. Non-California students pay at least $20,000 a year more each than in-state students. About $10,000 of those fees are profit for the university. That means the 1,725 out-of-state student increase will net about $17 million for UC Berkeley."

"Raise" money by killing educational opportunities for our own children. UC is run by government educators, not professional educators. It is time to fill the seats with Californians first.

Spend money to buy a car, and then the car is delivered to a kid in France? Not a chance. But that is what our own government is doing to us.
