Government educators have wasted tax dollars for years. Now, those tax dollars are dwindling, and they still wasted them. The State has allowed the local education czars more flexibility in the spending of money--instead they have used the money to cut needed programs for the purpose of demanding parcel taxes, bonds and more spending. Corruption has many faces; government education is just one of them.
"In slashing education spending over the past two years, Gov. Schwarzenegger and the Legislature have given school districts more authority to choose how to spend their dwindling dollars. Sacramento has untied the strings on many categorical programs those funded for specific purposes, such as buying textbooks and teaching civics education.
But, to an extent, equity has been sacrificed for flexibility: In many districts, programs primarily benefiting low-income, minority students summer school, high school exit exam tutoring, community day schools have been sacrificed to prevent further layoffs and keep the lights on for everyone."
Local government went it wants to raise tax dollars threatens to cut the police department in half--Phony Tony did this in Los Angeles, then, as expected wasted the money for police, creating a deficit of over $200 million instead.
Time to let the children hostages of unions and special interests go. Vouchers, charter schools and private schools--end the monopoly of government schools.
