UC Berkeley has the ability to save the taxpayers $75 million per year--but won't. The government school is run by government educators, not professional educators. Government believes in hiring and spending. Professionals believe in quality education as the goal.
"The 200-page report released Monday by the university and the firm Bain & Company also noted that it could cost the university up to $75 million in one-time expenses to achieve savings that could reach $75 million per year by 2013. One-time expenses could include those associated with opening new offices or building more efficient energy systems on a campus that spends $35 million per year on energy.
The reforms likely would result in an undetermined number of layoffs on a campus that already has eliminated hundreds of jobs in the past two years. The school employs more than 21,000 people."
Wonder how many union jobs would be lost? Instead of taking immediate action, the government folks are going to ask students (students are still learning, why are they going to help make an adult decision? Oh, if this does not happen they will pay more in tuition and complain about it.) Then employees that need to be layed off are going to be in on the decision--guess what they will say.
We pay Administrators to run the school--they steal the money because they allow others to make the final decisions.
