  • Example of Government Educator

    From watchdogsiliconvalley.blogspot.com/2010/04/morning-news-round-up-4610-161-more-to.htmlWatchdog Silicon Valley:

County Board of Education, and has this strange nugget about Chuck Weis, the Santa County County head educator:
"...Last month he handed the board a letter from his doctor warning that "his work schedule is impairing his ability to maintain long-term good heath." It advises that he have at least two or three weeks of vacation each year he gets 25 paid days a year and time for vigorous exercise at least three times per week...

He gets FIVE weeks of vacation--so why doesn't he take it? He needs to exercise three times a week--how about Saturday, Sunday and one day after work?

Chuck Weis is getting $285,000 per year, five weeks vacation--and he got the school district to give him a loan of ONE MILLION DOLLARS to buy a home in Santa Clara County (hint: he still lives with his wife in Ventura County, but did buy a condo in downtown San Jose).

This note looks like he is setting up a disability claim. Why? Because if he was declared disabled, half of his pension could be tax free.

This from a guy who "forgot" to tell the folks in Santa Clara, before being hired, about a $869,000 lawsuit cause by him when he headed the Ventura County education system. "And trustees say they were surprised to learn in a Mercury News report last month that Weis and his deputy, Cary Dritz, were defendants in a lawsuit over retaliation that cost the Office of the Ventura County Superintendent of Schools $869,000." He did tell them about the $120,000 lawsuit he lost for retaliating against an employee.

Also, note that while he is supposed to be a full tell Santa Clara Education leader. "Some trustees are disappointed that Weis hasn't devoted his full attention to the county. His role as president of the Association of California School Administrators often pulls him away. He said that so far this school year, he's devoted 34 days to ACSA, which is paying the county office $75,000 for his time." That is SEVEN weeks since January. Or maybe a school year--since July.

Due to his "health" problems, maybe he should resign as President of this organization?

Does his Board trust him any more? "Because of the peculiarities of state law, Weis oversees the 1,731 employees of the County Office of Education, while the board has authority only over him. But board members are now asking to be included in interviewing candidates for top managers that Weis will hire."

Looks like Ventura County is going to have Chuck Weis as a full time resident very soon.

Weis is a great example of a Government Educator, while our children deserve Professional Educators in charge.

    What do you think?
