  • Monterey County: State cuts may hit early

Thanks to the $36 billion deficit and over $600 billion debt, the State might start cuts to counties and cities as early as March 1. The State Controller has said that by April1, government will run out of money.

"Cuts in state funding for health care and other services could impact Monterey County as early as March, state Controller John Chiang said Tuesday at a meeting of the Board of Supervisors.

That's months ahead of July 1, when the next state budget is due. The state, Chiang said, has a problem even more urgent than the roughly $20 billion deficit expected over the next 18 months.

Just keeping enough cash on hand to prevent lenders from abandoning California in the spring is a challenge, the state's top accountant said."

Not only are we going to run out of cash--but we risk losing anybody, including the neighborhood loan shark, from loaning more money to us!

Guess it is time to end the union monopoly over government, get rid of AB 32 and role back tax increases. Otherwise, California will be shut down in 90 days.
