  • San Jose Parents Want Out of Government School

If it isn't any the quality of education, then why are parents so desperate to get out of the government education system? ""We're parents who believe in small schools," said organizer Bernie Kotlier, who emphasized that parent interest in Summit isn't a reflection on the quality or politics of the East Side Union High School District, the system their children would attend after the eighth grade."

Actually they want quality education for their children and the union run government system doesn't have it. "The flagship Summit Charter, which opened in fall 2003, last spring scored 827 on the state's Academic Performance Index, which has ranges between 200 and 1,000 points. On the same index, East Side Union's score was 730, and Sequoia Union High School District in southern San Mateo County, where Summit and its sister school, Everest Charter, are located, was 769.

It is a reflection on the government schools--parents want the best for their children, not what unions are willing to allow.
