California is already $36 billion in deficit, when you include everything. We already have lost lawsuits valued at about $5 billion, and not paid a dime on those. Now if we lose this lawsuit you can add hundreds of millions more to the deficit. "A state appeals court heard oral arguments Tuesday in a lawsuit challenging Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's line-item veto cuts to health and welfare programs and expressed skepticism over the contention that the governor exceeded his authority in making the reductions.
The three-judge panel must decide whether to restore hundreds of millions of dollars the governor cut in July using his line-item veto power to deepen spending reductions made by the Legislature in a plan to close a $24 billion deficit."
By the way, the CTA, a union, is suing the State for billions in money not "given" to government schools--lose that lawsuit and we are burnt toast.
