We just got finished with the dram of the Governor begging for a water bill. Obama barely got a government health care bill out of the House of Representatives. The GOP won two governorships from Democrats--and we watched the silliness of a congressional race in New York.
Now folks are getting ready for Thanksgiving and the Holidays. Few are paying attention to Sacramento. You better. The Governor is working hard to raise your taxes again.
"the Commission recommended phasing out the corporate income tax and the sales tax. However, they would replace those with a mysterious, untested Business Net Receipts Tax (BNRT).
The BNRT is a mystery because it doesn't exist anywhere else in the country and the Commission recommended it without any serious study. The BNRT would tax every transaction, including services. That means taxes on dry cleaners, accountants, even funeral services.
At two public workshops on the BNRT, there was unanimous concern expressed about the new tax. One of the biggest complaints was that since it doesn't allow deductions for employment expenses, it would drive jobs out of state.
And there is no guarantee that the taxes the Commission wants repealed will ever go away. As you know, old taxes never die."
Read this article carefully, then contact your Assembly and State Senate members demanding "NO NEW TAXES". California is already in enough trouble.
