The President of the State Bar is a radical former member of the LA School Board. Howard Miller was a promoter of forcing students on buses instead of allowing them to attend local schools--billions was wasted by the forced bussing Howard Miller promoted. The busses clogged the freeways, the air was putrid with bus smoke and the kids became tourist.
Now the Governor has vetoed the bill that allows the State Bar to charge dues for its members.
The lesson here is that the Bar is part of the State government, not a freestanding organization. The Rotary charges dues and the State has nothing to say about it.
Read the veto message--it is classic. Sadly, the same can be written about many State agencies.
