Several utilities has requested permission to charge rate payers the cost of repairing equipment destroyed by wild fires.
"Instead of paying premiums to an insurance company, which are currently covered through rates, the money would go into the account to be used in the event of a damaging wildfire, Moreno said.
If a fire were to severely damage utility equipment, rates could go up to cover the repair costs, but the increase wouldn't be very noticeable, he said."
