Nebraska has a one house legislature--they call it a "unicameral". LA County is bigger than Nebraska by a wide margin.
Some have determined that getting rid of the Assembly and Senate would solve our fiscal problems. But how? No checks and balances is the answer. If the State Senate had its way, criminals will help determine jail sentences and the theft of cars valued at $2500 or less would have the same punishment as jaywalking.
"Here's the problem: Eliminating the checks and balances of separate deliberations on legislation in each house would result in a major loss of transparency. Merging the two chambers would seriously undermine the public's and media's efforts to blow the whistle on bad bills."
Instead of ending the tax and spend attitude of Sacramento, instead of ending the union and special interest control of our Capitol, folks are looking at procedure rather than policy.
The "unicameral" is a waste of time, fix the problems, stop creating ways to continue them.
