Why do we still kill trees to publish textbooks? Has anybody in Sacramento heard about the Model-A Ford or computers? Wonder if these educated professionals know they can actually publish a book "online" and save the planet by saving trees? In fact, when they want to add a comma, a comment or correct special interest statement, publishers can change a few words in cyberspace, instead of printing tens of thousands of new books and killing a forest.
This fiscal crisis might finally drag education into the 21st Century. Maybe then LAUSD will actually know how many students it has, as well.
