Governor Mike Dukakis allowed Willie Horton a furlough from prison--, Horton then killed.
Charlie Samuel was in prison, having been CONVICTED ten times in 32 years--of course you know he committed more crimes for which he was not thrown back in jail. "A preliminary examination of Samuel's criminal history reveals that he has been convicted of home invasion robbery, two burglaries, a vehicle theft, and assorted theft and drug offenses. For many, this history would identify Samuel as the type of criminal for whom "Three Strikes" and other habitual offender laws were enacted. Unfortunately, prison bureaucrats and many Democratic legislators read Charlie Samuel's long criminal history and observe that most of his offenses were theft or drug related and conclude that he is a nonviolent offender. In fact, Samuel's last felony offense for petty theft with a prior felony conviction in 2006 would, under a proposal now before the Legislature, be reduced to a misdemeanor. This and other proposals to turn felonies into misdemeanors in order to save money may be adopted next month."
This "low level" petty criminal is just the type not to be allowed in jail by the Governor and the Democrats, who want to release 27,000 "petty criminals".
Last week in the course of a petty theft, he kidnapped and murdered a 17 year old girl--to paraphrase something the Governor would understand:
" There are no petty criminals, just petty criminals working their way up to a killer". This is the type of man we have bee releasing. This is the type of man the Governor and Democrats believe are harmless.
Just ask Lily Burke how harmless. Thanks to Senator George Runner to put this in perspective. Dukakis had his Willie Horton, Arnold has Charlie Samuel.
