Notice that no one is calling this a balanced budget--no one will that stupid.
The real problem is that with lowered revenues, out of control spending, special interests in charge and the unions owning government, it takes a tsunami to change Sacramento.
The good news is that when the budget is signed, it will be $15 billion in debt. By Labor Day the deficit will reach $20 billion as more courts nullify previous cuts and a probable TRO on the $2 billion the Capitol is trying to steal from local government redevelopment funds.
The Legislature is on vacation till August 17. They are scheduled to end session on September 11--what a purposeful day. Then they do not come back into session till after the Rose Bowl. By then the deficit will have reached $30 billion and the cuts at that points will finally be meaningful.
Democrat Leader Darrell Steinberg has already announced they will be back before Thanksgiving and will ONLY look at raising ten taxes. Poor guy really needs a vacation and a course in reality.
We already have too many taxes. He demanded tax increases in February, got them, and now the revenues WITH the added taxes is down. Any more tax increases and the dead economy will be buried, for years.
Guess he is very old, since he forgot about May 19.
