  • San Jose Mayor Emphasizes Harsh Fiscal Realities in St. of the City Speech; Cuts/Layo

San Jose is close to being bankrupt.

"We relayed recently that during preliminary budget sessions, San Jose officials outlined the very real possibility that the city would experience massive layoffs and extensive cuts, even if contract concessions were secured from public employee unions. In a bleak picture of the city’s fiscal woes, it was noted that 349 police officers and 145 firefighters could lose their jobs. It is projected that the city has a staggering $110 million deficit, forcing officials to emphasize that concessions, layoffs, cuts, and pension reform are all necessary."

They will lose lots of cops and firefighters--but the unions still run the city and have sweetheart deals. Now the Leftist Mayor realizes he will be known in history as the Mayor that filed for bankruptcy.

Like long time Democrat run cities, San Jose is more interested in union and special interest needs that providing the basic service of government, public safety.

It is a good thing for the folks of San Jose, that when the 349 cops are fired they still have the Second Amendment.
