1. Are Labor Unions Done For?, AOL News, 1/12/11
Slowly, but surely, the people of California and the United States see the unions as the major source of our economic problems. Why? Unions elect tax and spend Democrats to office. They promote BO and elected him. Pension plans are about to collapse. Unions own local government and school districts. Folks understand that forcing workers to pay bribes to work, then use the stolen money to buy government has to end.
"State and municipal officials on both sides of the political spectrum are increasingly taking on public employee unions -- promising to cut pensions, freeze salaries and inhibit collective bargaining -- to address budget shortfalls.
But the antagonism against labor unions isn't limited to the public sector, or to public officials. As The New Yorker's James Surowiecki points out, a Gallup poll during the Great Depression -- when unions gained new-found power -- found that more than 70 percent of respondents favored unions, compared with fewer than 50 percent today."
2. ACORN leader avoids prison for voter fraud conspiracy, Daily Caller, 1/12/11
Another ACORN leader found guilty of election fraud. Sadly, this was NOT here first conviction. Worse, she is a serial criminal in the field of voter fraud--oh, she got probation for trying to kill democracy.
"In this case, Busefink entered an “Alford plea,” which is roughly equivalent to “no contest.” In other words, she did not admit the act, but admitted that the prosecution would likely be able to prove the charge at trial.
The case involved a conspiracy to provide illegal financial bonuses to voter registration canvassers for exceeding their daily quotas. Nevada law forbids the practice on the theory that such bonuses provide an incentive for canvassers to file bogus registrations.
The criminal complaint filed against Busefink by the Democratic attorney general of Nevada, Catherine Cortez Masto, in May 2009 stated that as “ACORN Regional Director for Voter Registration” Busefink “did aid, abet, counsel, encourage, hire, command, induce or procure ACORN to commit the crime of Compensation for Registration of Voters” by approving a bonus program called “Blackjack” or “21.” Voter registration canvassers were given cash bonuses for exceeding a daily quota of 20 registrations."
3. Jobless Claims Jump, Wholesale Food Costs Surge, cnbc.com, 1/13/11
Inflation is hitting. In a year it will hit hard, maybe as bad as inflation hit us during the Jimmie Carter years. Inflation is a tax by government for its bad policies--more spending, more borrowing; more debt and you get inflation. This is Obama's revenge on the middle class--another effort by Democrats to make us all poor.
U.S. jobless claims jumped to their highest level since October while food and energy costs boosted producer prices, pointing lingering headwinds for an economic recovery that had been showing renewed vigor.
4. Lauer to Tom DeLay: Will You Rethink Your Opposition to Gun Control Now?, By Geoffrey Dickens, NewsBusters, 1/13/11
The Left will use any excuse to make you a victim. The Leftist media loves to have victims. Matt Lauer prefers that you be unprotected while criminals rob, maim and kill at will those who can not defend themselves. Remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
"LAUER: You would have no difference of opinion, in terms of the assault ban, of the ban on assault weapons that you didn't allow to come to a vote in 2004? And I'm not connecting dots that don't exist here, Congressman, believe me. But, but in that law would have prevented the new manufacture of things like these extended magazine that, that was used by this alleged shooter in this case. He could have still gotten one, he could have gotten an old one. But no new rethinking of your, of the philosophical idea of that?
DELAY: Absolutely not. Guns and people that carry guns are a deterrent. Happened right here in Texas. We, we had a situation where people would bump into women in expensive cars and rob them right on the freeway. The day that concealed carry went into law in the state of Texas, that all stopped, because the robbers didn't know if that women they were bumping into had a gun or not. So, you know, this is all stuff that we shouldn't be talking about. And what we ought to be talking about is, is the rhetoric in Washington, what people ought to be - how people should be treating each other civilly. And gun control and grandstanding doesn't help anybody."
5. Obama’s terrible choice for chief of staff., Jonathan Chair, New Republic, 1/13/11
The Left hates the Obama choice of Chief of Staff, Bill Daley. Bill is the black sheep of the Daley family--he is a capitalist!
"When President Obama appointed William Daley as the new White House chief of staff, a great cry of relief was heard in the land, especially those parts of the land that happen to be corporate boardrooms. “His moderate views and Wall Street credentials,” reported The Washington Post, “make him an unexpected choice for a president who has railed against corporate irresponsibility and tried, with limited success, to appease restive liberals who think he has not been tough enough on bankers.” “All of these are excellent, pro-business moves,” enthused Fred Smith, CEO of FedEx. Even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell had rare praise to offer. At last, a centrist who could reign in the Reign Of Terror endured by American capitalism.
Yet one stray thought occurred to me. Who was the previous, left-wing chief of staff orchestrating Obama’s bolshevism? Why, it was none other than Rahm Emanuel—Clintonian deal-maker extraordinaire and Scourge of the Left. So what could account for the overjoyed reaction?
The answer is that Daley is not just a garden-variety centrist like Emanuel. He is a “pro-business” centrist, which accounts for both his immense popularity and the enduring role played by his type."
Is BO a secret capitalist, or just a scheming Chicago politician who hates freedom and profit? What do you think?
