  • Great Escape? How Brown May Pay Back the Unions, Cheaply

How bad was Arnold as an administrator? "The column has one stark statistic that should become familiar to every Californian worried about state spending. It is: "California was spending $6 billion on prisons when Schwarzenegger took office in 2003, $28,000 per inmate per year. This year, the state will spend $9.3 billion on corrections, $49,500 per inmate." And prison spending is only one of the budget areas that has exploded. The others: health care costs, debt service, and tax breaks."

What to expect from Jerry Brown, who opposes the death penalty? he will announce he will obey his oath of office. But, end the death penalty by not allowing facilities for the penalty.

"-Protect people, not projects. Morain notes that the state could save $500 million by not rebuilding its death row. That's money that could protect the guards and other state union employees."

In this way he can give more money to unions, keep us paying for murderers till they die in their sleep and claim he is saving us money.

And, by doing it this way, no one will be able to accuse him of disobeying his oath of office--we just could not afford the policy. So, if he says we can't afford to execute murderers, can we afford the kill and revenue killer AB 32--maybe he should end that as well? Also, it is cheaper to find and deport illegal aliens than keep them in the State, so why not enforce those laws?

To Brown, murderers are OK, jobs are bad.
