1. McDonnell proposes ending Virginia's public broadcasting funding, By: David Sherfinski, Washington Examiner, 12/15/10
Is owning a TV station an essential role for government? How about golf courses, parking lots and stadiums? In fact, government is only supposed to provide
The GOP Guv of Virginia is showing the way by ending the funding for a government owned TV station. In an era of Cable TV and hundreds of TV stations there is no excuse of a government propaganda machine.
"Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell unveiled a number of budget cuts Wednesday, including eliminating state funding for public broadcasting.
That move, popular with national Republicans, would save the state an estimated $2 million by the end of fiscal 2012 and $4 million by the end of fiscal 2013."
2. Fewer Than Half of American Children Growing Up In Intact Families, Survey Finds, By Susan Jones , CNSNEWS.com, 12/15/10
The best possible family for a child to have growing up is a mother and a father. That is not always possible, and it is not the fault of the child. Still many of society's' ills can be traced to lack of a father figure, lack of a mother figure, parents fighting, divorce and more.
President Johnson created the War on Poverty. Instead it was a war on families. To get welfare the father had to leave the home and we are working on the third generation of welfare families.
"American society is dysfunctional, characterized by a faulty understanding of the male-female relationship," Fagan said in a news release. "Our culture needs a compass correction, learning again how to belong to each other when we have begotten children together."
Fagan said providing children with intact families holds "immeasurable benefits" for children, adults and society in general. The benefits include financial, educational, legislative, legal and judicial gains, Fagan added."
3. Hardball in Wisconsin; Massive Defeat for Unions in Lame-Duck Session, Mishs Global Economic Trend Analysis, 12/17/10
It looks like the State of Wisconsin is about to free the workers from extortionist unions.
"In Wisconsin, governor-elect Scott Walker is in a showdown with state employee unions.
"Anything from the decertify all the way through modifications of the current laws in place," Walker said at a luncheon sponsored by the Milwaukee Press Club at the Newsroom Pub.
"The bottom line is that we are going to look at every legal means we have to try to put that balance more on the side of taxpayers and the people who care about services."
This is also happening in Ohio and several other States. The idea that a government worker must pay a bribe to work for government is about to end--freedom from extortionists is the order of the day."
4. Diana Furchtgott-Roth: Obamacare will hurt low-skill workers, By: Diana Furchtgott-Roth Washington Examiner, 12/16/10
Forcing kids into government schools harm the children. Minimum wage laws keep young people from getting jobs. High taxes stop businesses from hiring new workers. As expected, ObamaCare harms the poor and low skilled workers.
"I walked into my local CVS drugstore at 5550 Connecticut Avenue in Washington last week to pick up some photos. Not a cashier in sight. The row of cash registers had suddenly vanished, replaced by self-scanning checkout machines.
Come 2014, the health care law will make it more costly for employers to hire low-skill workers. And, as workplaces around the country prepare to implement the new law, employers are considering how best to comply.
For some companies, such as CVS, that means that low-wage and part-time jobs will start to go, not in 2014, but now."
Look at your local stores to see this trend--note the scanners at Wal Mart and Krogers/Ralphs grocery stores.
5. Al Gore is right, we are in the middle of Global Warming. here is the evidence from Sweden and Britain. Oh, sorry, we are in the middle of Global Cooling--wonder how Gore will scam us now? Now that he is making tens of millions of dollars, Gore is the Madoff of public policy. P.T. Barnum must be proud of Al!
Sweden in 'coldest December in 100 years'
Power outages, traffic accidents as well as train and flight delays have left Swedes reeling from Thursday’s snowstorm, which forecasters say isn’t over yet. “Slippery conditions will continue across the country. There is already a lot of snow on the roads,” SMHI’s Elin Torstensson told the TT news agency. She explained that Sweden has experienced more cold days and more snow than is normal for December. (Snip) Temperatures on Saturday are expected to range from a few degrees below freezing in Götaland to -25 Celsius in the far north, before cooling somewhat on Sunday when temperatures in the northern Sweden
Coldest December since records began as temperatures plummet to minus 10C bringing travel chaos across Britain
"Swathes of Britain skidded to a halt today as the big freeze returned - grounding flights, closing rail links and leaving traffic at a standstill. And tonight the nation was braced for another 10in of snow and yet more sub-zero temperatures - with no let-up in the bitterly cold weather for at least a month, forecasters have warned. The Arctic conditions are set to last through the Christmas and New Year bank holidays and beyond and as temperatures plummeted to -10c (14f) the Met Office said this December was ‘almost certain’ to become the coldest since records began in 1910"
