There is good news inside the bad news.
"There has been a 45 percent decline over the past decade in the number of people in teacher preparation programs, from 77,705 in 2001-02 to 44,558 in 2007-08; the number of first and second year teachers has declined by more than 50 percent over that period. That’s a rational response, considering many districts have been laying off teachers. The problem, says Patrick Shields, the lead SRI International researcher for the report, is that supply and demand will be out of phase. One third of teachers are over 50, and there will be a 7 percent growth in elementary-school age students in the next decade. More teachers will be needed, but for now, all of the market signals and media reports say, stay clear of teaching."
Parents will be demanding more education, less propaganda and political correctness. This will mean fewer administrators and phony testing that is nice to look at but not used for anything but door stops.
Maybe if professional teachers were not forced to pay bribes to work and the union works against their interests and quality education, there might be more people willing to teach in government schools.
