A Lincoln truck driver was given a one-year suspended sentence and three years of probation after being convicted of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence in the death of a Lincoln bicyclist in 2007, the Placer County District Attorney's Office said.
Gaspar Reyes, 44, was found guilty of the misdemeanor charge Thursday after a Placer County jury reviewed video photos from an ATM machine that showed Reyes' big-rig failing to stop at Joiner Parkway and Stanmark Lane, according to a news release.
Kathy Marie Gienger, 45, owner of Lincoln Day Spa, was killed after being hit with Reyes' 78,000-pound dirt-hauling truck, the release said.
Reyes told police twice that he stopped at the stop sign, the release said.
In addition, Reyes was given a $300 fine and 100 hours of community service, where he has to high school students "about the responsibility of being a safe driver," the release said.
