  • Warm, rainy days likely to continue through Tuesday

The Sacramento region is getting a little gift from Hawaii with unseasonable but warm showers that are expected to continue through Tuesday night.
The rain starting Friday is a result of a low-pressure system from the sub-tropics, a departure from the usual weather fronts originating in the Alaska area, said Felix Garcia, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
Consider it a little bit of Honolulu in Sacramento.
"This is perfect," Garcia said. "I've been going home and watching movies."
The rain set a record Friday, falling 0.87 of an inch in downtown Sacramento and besting a 1905 record of 0.59 of an inch, Garcia said. The 0.16 of an inch of rain Saturday did not overtake the 0.56 of an inch that fell on that date in 1971.
The Sacramento area is now at about 82 percent of normal rainfall for the year, Garcia said.
High temperatures will continue to be 68, with lows in the lower 50s, as well as on-and-off rain through Tuesday evening. Wednesday will begin a clear streak with temperatures expected to hit the 80s by Friday.
Another slightly cooler pressure system then seems to be making its way to the area from the Pacific and may hit Sunday morning.
