Linda Katehi has been put forward as candidate to become chancellor of UC Davis. Her appointment will be considered by UC regents next week
Katehi and Susan Desmond-Hellman, who is the candidate to be UC San Francisco chancellor, will be appointed to the top posts by UC President Mark G. Yudof at the system's Board of Regents meeting next week, a UC news release states.
The appointments are subject the regents' approval. If approved, they would take over in August.
Katehi, 55, is an electrical and computer engineering professor and serves as provost for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also has worked for large public research institutions, the release states.
UC Davis chancellor Larry Vanderhoef is stepping down this summer after 15 years in the position.
Desmond-Hellmann, 51, is a physician and biotechnology industry executive and is considered a leader in cancer research, the release states.
Most recently, she served as president of product development for Genentech.
UC San Francisco's current chancellor, Dr. J. Michael Bishop, is leaving the post after 10 years.
