  • Yolo County deputies fatally shoot knife-wielding Woodland man

Yolo County sheriff's deputies today shot and killed a Woodland man who threatened them with a knife, according to Woodland police.
Lt. Charlie Wilts said two deputies fired their sidearms at the 26-year-old man - a pedestrian who had been stopped by three members of the sheriff's gang unit.
Approximately four shots were fired, he said.
The man was taken by ambulance to Woodland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Wilts said.
The shooting occurred on the Gum Avenue overcrossing of Highway 113 at about 2:30 p.m., he said.
The area has been cordoned off as a crime scene, and investigators from the state Department of Justice were on their way, Wilts said.
Because the shooting took place in Woodland, city police will conduct a criminal investigation while the sheriff's department conducts an internal review, he said.
