  • Storm coming for the weekend could bring 2 inches of rain

A storm that experts call "unseasonably strong and wet" is predicted to replace the mild weather characterizing the region for the last few day, bringing up to 2 inches of rain.
Sunny skies will grow cloudy today as a low-pressure system moves into the Sacramento region, bringing a threat of rain beginning Friday.
High temperatures today are expected to reach about 71 degrees, with clouds moving in by this evening, according to the National Weather Service's Web site.
Those clouds signal arrival of a storm that should bring light showers to coastal mountains and the Sierra Nevada tonight.
Increased showers turning to steady rain are expected in Sacramento and the northern San Joaquin Valley, bringing up to two inches of precipitation through Saturday morning, the weather service predicts.
Heavy snow also is possible in the higher elevations of the Sierra, and snow levels could drop to below 7,000 feet by early Saturday morning.
The precipitation is expected to taper off by Saturday afternoon, but more rain is possible Saturday night and into Sunday.
