A big rig crash and oil spill is blocking several lanes of traffic and causing major congestion on both sides of the Capital City Freeway near Cal Expo.
A semi truck and black sport utility vehicle crashed about 11:27 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway just south of Exposition Boulevard, an online California Highway Patrol report states.
The big rig crashed over the barrier of the freeway and was partially hanging over the bridge, sending pieces of the truck, including the hood, onto the American River bike trail.
Two lanes of the freeway are blocked, and motorists are advised to expect delays until about 2 p.m., the report states. Speeds in the area are down to about 15 mph.
The crash also resulted in an oil spill that is about 6 feet wide and 100 feet long.
Alternate routes include Interstate 80 through North Sacramento and Highway 50.
