Fight Back in Sacramento & AB 1914
Please take the time to review and take a stand on AB 1914, Torrico, California Assembly
This bill will impact California Citizens. When an issue motivates us we may volunteer or be requested to collect signatures for an Initiative, Referendum or Recall. Even if we do not get directly involved in the Initiative process, we should be aware of the legislation that limits our freedom. AB 1914 is legislation, in my opinion, that is designed to severely limit or destroy the unique privilege and opportunity that Californians have had to challenge our legislators or recall errant representatives, or Governors.
This bill seems reasonable on its surface but when you read the bill and ask yourself how would I defend myself against a charge of lying to someone while gathering signatures for petitions you realize that unscrupulous opponents could lie about your efforts and tie you up in court. By the time the case was heard your cause would have been lost. The bill would require you to call or mail each signatory on all your petitions, telling them why their signature was not accepted. Your sponsor could be fined $1000 under certain conditions.

This bill was read the second time and amended on April 2, 2008.
Go to (http://info.sen.ca.gov) the Cal. Senate website and select “Legislation” then, enter AB 1914 in the slot for Bill number. In the author block enter Torrico. I urge you to read this bill and tell as many of your friends and associates about this bill. Then call your Assembly Representative and Senator and tell them to vote no on AB 1914.

    Thanks
    William R. Allardice
